Tips for Supporting Food Banks

Updated: Feb 10, 2021

Food banks are very busy at this time.

With schools closed and many people not being able to work and earn an income more and more people are going to be utilizing these services.

Our friends Jennie Gordon and the Wyoming Hunger Initiative have compiled a list of food banks, soup kitchens, and other organizations around Wyoming that are providing essential services.

What should you donate to a food bank?

1. Money

This is always the greatest need. These organizations will know how to get the most out of every dollar.

2. Call them and ask.

The phone numbers are listed at the link above. Do not burden these organizations with items that they do not need or can not store.

3. Canned goods (non-expired)

The most desired items are often peanut butter, tuna, canned meats, and soups. Other easy to use nonperishables are also usually welcomed (microwavable oatmeal, mac & cheese, crackers, etc.).

4. Hygiene products

Toilet paper, soap, feminine hygiene products, diapers, or other sanitary products. These are in high demand and can help keep the virus from spreading. Some organizations may also accept household cleaning supplies or items like laundry detergent.

During these times of uncertainty, we have the opportunity to serve and love our community.

Please take care of yourselves and your neighbors.
