book club

Wyoming Interfaith Network Book Club is an initiative designed to engage participants through online discussions hosted by Wyoming Interfaith Network. Our goal is to engage in respectful dialogue and meaningful conversation to facilitate personal spiritual growth, increase awareness on a variety of subjects, and develop valuable relationships through which we live out our deep love of the Holy. We do not seek to convert, but to connect with each other to foster peace and good works in the fertile ground of religious and spiritual diversity in the Equality State.

Those interested in participating in book club discussions are encouraged to do so as they are able. We understand that life may not allow attendance at every gathering; however, we believe in offering grace to allow everyone to participate as time allows.

Profiles in Courage: Standing Against the Wyoming Wind

Written by Rodger McDaniel

This is a book about that most admirable of human virtues - courage. 'Grace under pressure,' Ernest Hemingway defined it. These are the stories of the pressures experienced by nine Wyoming citizens and three groups of citizens, i.e., the Black 14, the People of the Wind River Indian Reservation and the internees of Heart Mountain. It's about the grace with which they endured the risks to their careers, the unpopularity of their courses, the defamation of their characters, and sometimes, but sadly only sometimes, the vindication of their reputations and their principles. This book is about the flashes of courage these women and men exhibited when it mattered most.

My Neighbor's Faith: Stories of Interreligious Encounter, Growth, and Transformation

Edited by Jennifer Howe Peace, Or N. Rose and Gregory Mobley

This book is a remarkable collection of individual stories sharing moments of learning from "wise and insightful neighbors". As Sister Joan Chittister shares in the Foreword of the book, "We are not meant to go to God alone, no matter who we are. We are meant to go together, enriched by one another's faith and wisdom and insights into the ways of God."

Setsuko's Secret: Heart Mountain and the Legacy of Japanese American Incarceration

Written by Shirley Ann Higuchi

Navigating the complicated terrain of the Japanese American experience, Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation’s board chair Shirley Ann Higuchi patched together her mother Setsuko’s story and came to understand the forces and generational trauma that shaped her own life. Moving seamlessly between family and communal history, Setsuko’s Secret offers a clear window into the “camp life” that was rarely revealed to the children of the incarcerated. This volume powerfully insists that we reckon with the pain in our collective American past.
