Greetings WAC Community,
Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you. – Luke 6:27
I challenge our members and our supporters to three resolutions during 2017:
Champion justice and understanding through prayer, dialogue and action.
Cross the divide to connect with those you view as “on the other side” to build relationships that can lead to mutual
Do one action or more that is beyond your current comfort zone for the sake of justice.
The Wyoming Association of Churches has resolutions on our positions that were adopted at membership meetings and were approved or reaffirmed during the last three years. The new one added in 2016 was our opposition to transferring federal public lands to the state. Click here to view WAC’s resolutions.
The Wyoming State Legislature begins at noon January 10th. We are provided with opportunities to act on our resolutions.
You are invited by our Catholic friends to attend the 3rd Annual Interfaith Prayer Service at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Cheyenne on January 10th at 8 am to 9 am followed by a breakfast/reception in Hartmann Hall. The purpose is to offer praise and thanksgiving to God for our Wyoming Legislators and for all government leaders. We will also be asking for God’s graces to be with everyone who is working for the common good of the people of Wyoming during the 64th Legislative Session. I have been asked to offer a prayer for unity.
Immediate Call to Action: SJ 3 has been filed to propose a state constitutional amendment to allow the State of Wyoming to accept control of federal public lands. It will first be considered in the State Senate and will require a 2/3 vote in each house of the legislature to go onto the ballot. Only 11 votes in the Senate against it can stop it. That is do-able, but they need to hear from us.
We ask you to contact your State Senator NOW and ask him or her to vote “No on SJ 3.” State Senators contact information can be found at: http://legisweb.state.wy.us/LegislatorSummary/LegislatorList.aspx.
A short video on the proposed constitutional amendment and what happened at the December 14th hearing on it can be viewed here: YouTube
Fear not. Be bold. Do justice.
Blessings,
Chesie Lee
