Wyoming Interfaith Network Monday Message, August 19, 2019 Hello all, welcome to the Monday message, I have some exciting news to share with you. The annual meeting for the Wyoming Interfaith Network has been scheduled for Thursday, September 5th, 8:30AM to 4:30 PM, then 6:00PM to 8:00PM, and Friday, September 6th, 8:30AM to noon. THE SPEAKING SESSIONS ARE FREE!! JUST COME AND LISTEN AND ASK QUESTIONS! It was decided by a poll of the Board of Directors to have the meeting on Thursday and Friday, rather than the usual Friday and Saturday. I do invite you to visit the website, (just google Wyoming Interfaith Network). There is lots of good information to be found there. We have a great slate of speakers lined up, and the focus will be on mental health, for children, youth and adults, as well as Tribal issues on the Wind River Reservation. PLEASE NOTE: THIS YEAR THE SPEAKING SESSIONS ARE FREE!! NO CHARGE FOR ADMISSION! For the Thursday afternoon session, 2:30PM to 4:30PM, we have lined up Lillian Zuniga, from the Wyoming Office of Health Equity, (who happens to also be a past Peace and Justice team member), along with Rosa Salamanca, U.S. Dept. of Justice, Senior Conciliation Specialist for the Community Relations Service. Allison Sage, Northern Arapaho Tribal member, formerly with the Northern Arapaho Office of Health Equity will also be a presenter. The three of them will present together on the subject of health and other inequities in Wyoming. They will highlight the work of the Office of Health Equity (Lillian) and of the Community Relations Service (Rosa) as well as the Office of Health Equity of the Northern Arapaho Tribe (Allison). WIN has already been a part of that process with the Tribe, so the issue is pertinent to see where WIN was successful in its relationship with the Tribe and Tribal programs. They will re-visit programs completed with partners in the community to assist in moving health equity forward and addressing the social determinants of health on the Wind River Reservation. The partnership collaborated on issues around hate, poverty, discrimination, mental health, housing, food deserts and access to care. For Thursday evening, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Sharon Weber from Magellan Health will speak about a method of supporting and empowering families. High Fidelity Wraparound is a process that brings together a family’s support to empower and promote self-efficacy, creating a family and community system for healing and supporting youth who have mental health challenges. This presentation will look at how High Fidelity Wraparound works, how a community fits into the process and possible next steps for your respective communities. Then, we have Rob Johnston, Executive Director of the Wyoming Health Council, and who also is a representative to the LGBTQ Governor’s Behavioral Health Advisory Commission. Rob is scheduled for Friday morning, 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM, and will speak on “Mental health Issues in Wyoming: An Air View of the Under or Marginally Served and the Critical Parachute that can be provided by the Faith Community. AGAIN, THE SPEAKING SESSIONS ARE FREE!! JUST COME AND LISTEN AND ASK QUESTIONS! The meeting will be at First United Methodist Church in Casper, 302 East 2nd St, 82601. Lunch on Thursday will be an “on your own” at a local restaurant of your choice, as will dinner (See the final schedule at the end of this message) So come one, come all, and take advantage of this unique opportunity for listening and learning, and absorb some interesting and useful information and understanding of how people are confused and lost when it comes to mental health, for adults, youth and children, as well as pertinent information as regards how Faith Communities and local communities can work together for a common solution to common problems. PLEASE PASS THE WORD AROUND!, share with friends, neighbors and your particular faith community members, inviting them to come and be a part of this great opportunity to share information about your own interactions with any or all of these issues in your own community, or even in your own life. There will be time for questions after each presentation.
